Notes from our 10/14/99 meeting -------- Attending were Oliver, Marine, Brian, Thomas, and Naomi The main topic of the meeting was a wide discussion clarifying the terms and entries of matrix that Oliver had distributed the previous week. Clarifications of terminology: - Service generally means "hands-on" service - Support generally means phone support - answering questions about something, not necessarily fixing it - Tech Support means help given by OLC, Ops, killing print jobs, FL help, help from the developers and RCC's - Install/Reinstall means standard Cluster Services triage During the discussion, it became apparent that a number of issues are tangled together, and pulling on one has ramifications on others: Service/Support expectations Tracking of machines and accompanying overhead Fees (yes, no, if yes, then how much) Access control to 3partysw Guiding principle: Keep it Simple, within our constraints of licensing and costs Thomas presented his thoughts on access to 3partysw. In this scheme, there are two possibilities, "Open Access" or "Tracking by a List of Machines": Open Access: Just need AFS, sys:authuser, Kerberos, attach List of Machines: A machine can run 3partysw only if on a list. Why do this? Either because software licenses require this or because we need to recover costs for 3partysw. Two ways of doing this: - use the wrapper - use AFS groups (very disliked by Ops). Next meeting: Thursday, Oct 21 from 3:30 to 5 PM (NOTE EARLIER STARTING TIME) in N42-203. Agenda: ------ 1. Discussion of Oliver's message that follows up on Thomas' ideas 2. Possibly invite Angela to find out about the new deal with the MathWorks re Matlab
