LCD Set-up

Before setting anything up, be sure to get the appropriate adaptor cables from the AV utility closet in the Visitors Center. There are cables for use with standard Macintoshes, a PowerBook video adaptor, vga, SPARC and DECstations. All cables have identifying labels.

Once you have the correct cables and have determined where in the room you wish to project, perform the set-up.

  1. Set up the overhead projector. (The directions are on the bottom of the actual projector.)
  2. Place projector on stable piece of furniture.
  3. Remove protective cover (vinyl sleeve).
  4. Unlock the bottom panels.
  5. Open the doors and flip them back. (These will serve as the stand for the projector.)
  6. Remove the entire length of the power cord.
  7. Turn projector over so that it rests on its legs.
  8. Turn the large side knob, and you'll see the projector arm come out from the body of the projector. Keep turning it until the arm is fully extended.
  9. Gently place arm in upright position and secure it by screwing in the small black knob at the base of the arm.
  10. Swing mirror and lens at top of projector arm until an image appears on the screen.
  11. Adjust the image placement by gently moving the mirror panel.
  12. Plug in the projector and turn it on.
(To break down the projector, follow the above instructions in reverse.)

Now, set up LCD panel.

  1. Take LCD panel out of its soft case.
  2. Place it on top of the overhead projector.
  3. Place the panel face-up, with the InFocus Label text located at the far end of the projector.
  4. Plug in the LCD unit power supply.
The first image you'll see is a large purple field. Wait a moment, then press the "clear" button. You will get a grid screen, color bars and the word "InFocus".

Focusing the LCD unit

  1. Manuever the LCD panel until the color lines in the grid are converged. When properly converged, these lines will appear black, and have no shadowing.
  2. If the picture is soft, use the focus control on the overhead projector.

Connecting the Workstation to the LCD Panel

  1. Detach the monitor/cpu cables on the workstation.
  2. Connect the interface cables according to their tags ("connect to cpu", "connect to monitor").
  3. Connect the lcd adaptor to the socket on the panel. You will now have a clearly projected picture.

When you wish to take a break from projecting, detach the lcd interface cable. DO NOT UNPLUG THE LCD UNIT WITHOUT FIRST DETACHING THE INTERFACE CABLE.
