Secure FTPWhen you upload files, you must be sure that you are not transmitting your username and password in the clear. You can encrypt this confidential information by properly configuring your FTP software. Detailed instructions on secure file transfer from a PC or Mac can be found at http://web.mit.edu/olh/Remote/filetransfer.html. For Mac and PC Users of Dreamweaver 8: Secure FTP is a snap if you follow these instructions. For Mac Users without Dreamweaver: The most popular Mac FTP software is Fetch. Transferring files securely with Fetch requires making the appropriate selection in the Security field of the Make a New Connection dialog box. For a secure connection, choose "GSS" from the dropdown menu if you are running Fetch on a PowerPC. If you are running Fetch on a 68K Macintosh, choose "KClient." Make sure to check the Encrypt session check box. The MIT community may download Fetch from http://web.mit.edu/software/. Detailed instructions on Fetch can be found at http://itinfo.mit.edu/product?vid=570. For PC Users without Dreamweaver: For secure transfer with a PC, MIT IS&T supports SecureFX. You can find detailed information about SecureFX at http://itinfo.mit.edu/product?name=securefx&platform=Windows. Installation for any software on a Windows machine requires Administrator privileges.
