Some Freedom of Expression WWW Resources

This is page is a collection the many WWW resources for people interested in civil liberties.

American Civil Liberties Union Archive
The ACLU is the oldest and most extensive defender of civil liberties in America. Though much-criticized, now and often in it's history, no organization has a comparable record of principle.

Computers and Academic Freedom Archive
A great collection of resources. The focus is on computers, but many more general items are present. The indexed legal sections are excellent.

The Electronic Frontier Foundation
The electronic age has brought a whole new sets of battles against censorship, and organizations to fight them. Establishing freedom of the press for electronic communication as strongly as for printed communication will be a critical issue.

Electronic Frontier Canada
Electronic Frontier Canada [EFC] was founded to ensure that the principles embodied in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms are protected as new computing, communications, and information technologies emerge.

The Center for Democracy and Technology
The Center's mission is to develop and advocate public policies that advance constitutional civil liberties and democratic values in new computer and communications technologies.

Computer Profesionals for Social Responsibility
Another good outpost on the Electronic Frontier.

"The File Room", an illustrated archive of censorship
If you don't think censorship is a serious problem, look here.

American Communication Association
A great "collection of materials on communication law and First Amendment issues, resources for teaching and research in communication studies, and an extensive reference resource page for scholars and activists". Their Free of Speech links collection is impressive.

Sandra Bernstein's Freedom of Expression Links
A resource collection with an emphasis on Canada (but not exclusively dedicated to it).

The Boston Coalition for Freedom of Expression
The Boston Coalition For Freedom of Expression is an alliance of artists, writers, arts administrators, educators, and citizens concerned about censorship, arts advocacy, and the right of all segments of our society to be heard.

The Justice On Campus project
The Justice on Campus project is an informal online collaboration of writers, students, and persons concerned with free speech on campus.

Feminists Against Censorship
Feminists Against Censorship was formed in 1989 by a group of long-time feminist academics and campaigners who wished to fight censorship from a feminist perspective
Supreme Court Decisions
Everyone should read the original sources. They often don't say what partisan advocates claim that they say.
