For Parents

As an institution dedicated to hands-on learning and research, we encourage parents of prospective freshmen to come find out for themselves what MIT is all about – and there’s no better time for your research expedition than Campus Preview Weekend, an event that allows admitted students to get a taste of student life and academics at MIT. A range of CPW events is specifically designed to introduce you to the MIT community from a parent’s point of view, and to answer important questions.

You will also have the opportunity to tour the campus, hear from the deans and administrators who create our living and learning environments, and meet and talk with other MIT parents, both current parents as well as parents of MIT’s Class of 2013. The weekend is also a great opportunity to enjoy the beautiful and historic Boston area.

We hope you’ll join us!

Getting To and From Your Hotel

Please note that while shuttles will be available to get around campus and MIT's living groups during the weekend, you will need to arrange your own transportation to and from your hotel. The Le Meridien Cambridge and Boston Marriott Cambridge are about a 15-minute walk to the center of campus. Check with your hotel, as many hotels run shuttles.

Parking

When you arrive: There will be a designated area near Stratton Student Center where you will be able to park briefly to drop off your child and unload luggage. See parking map (pdf) for location.

7:00am–2:30pm Thursday & 7:00am–2:30pm Friday: We recommend that you do not bring your car to campus during these hours. Parents are advised to leave their car at their hotel and either walk, take a taxi, or take public transportation to MIT. If you can’t avoid bringing your car, you can either look for limited on-street, metered parking or park in one of the pay lots within walking distance to campus (about 5-15 mintues, depending on which lot); these are listed below. See parking map (pdf) for approximate locations.

2:30pm-midnight on Thursday: Free parking is available (on a first-come, first-served basis) in MIT’s West Annex Lot on Vassar Street. See parking map (pdf) for location.

2:30pm Friday to midnight on Sunday: Free parking is available (on a first-come, first-served basis) in MIT’s West Garage on Vassar Street. See parking map (pdf) for location.
