Directions

If you are reserving a flight, you may want to consider using Orbitz. Once you create an account you'll be redirected to the MIT Orbitz page.

If you are arriving by air, proceed directly to Terminal E where you will find the MIT airport shuttle to campus. If your flight does not arrive at Terminal E, you should take the complimentary Logan Airport shuttle service to Terminal E, where you will find our official airport greeters with MIT insignia, and the MIT airport shuttle. The MIT airport shuttle is a green Peter Pan bus with an MIT sign on the front windshield.

The complimentary MIT airport shuttle service will run from Boston's Logan Airport to campus on Thursday, April 16, and from campus back to the airport on Sunday, April 19 during specified hours. On Thursday, the airport shuttle will be stationed at Terminal E and will leave for campus approximately every half-hour beginning at 8:00 am and continuing until 9:00 pm. The last shuttle will leave Logan at 9:00 pm. On Sunday, the shuttle will run from 6:00 am until 2:00 pm. The last shuttle leaving MIT for the airport will be at 2:00 pm. See MIT-Logan Airport Shuttle (pdf) for more information.

If you are arriving or departing outside of the MIT shuttle hours of operation, you can take the subway to or from MIT (cost $2.00) or you can take a taxi (cost about $35). See Public Transportation (pdf) for directions to MIT via public transportation, and see MIT Subway Stop to Student Center (pdf) for directions to CPW check-in from the Kendall/MIT subway station.

If you arrive by train (Amtrak) or bus, get off at the last stop, South Station (not Back Bay Station). Taxis should be available outside the station and the fare is approximately $20-25. Public transportation (pdf) to MIT from the South Station train/bus terminal is very convenient. The South Station subway stop is located on the "Red Line," which runs directly to Kendall Square at MIT. The fare is $2.00.

If you arrive by car from the Massachusetts Turnpike (Interstate 90):
To reach MIT from New York and the mid-Atlantic states, the best route to MIT will be via Interstate 90 (I-90), also known as the Massachusetts Turnpike or MassPike. From the New York City metro area and points south, take Interstate 84 to Interstate 90. From upstate/western New York, take the New York Thruway to the Massachusetts Turnpike.

Follow I-90 east to the Cambridge/Brighton exit (exit 18). After paying the toll, follow the signs to Cambridge. Proceed through the stoplights at the intersection. You will cross the Charles River via the River Street Bridge. Continue straight on River Street for about 7/10 mile to Central Square (the next major intersection). Turn right onto Massachusetts Avenue and follow Massachusetts Avenue for about 7/10 mile. After you cross the railroad tracks, you will be looking at MIT - the Great Dome and academic facilities are on the left, the dormitories and athletic facilities are on the right. Download the parking map (pdf) for info about the temporary parking/drop-off location and for the longer term parking areas (limited).

If you arrive by car from Routes I-93 or I-95, or the Southeast Expressway:
To reach MIT from Rhode Island, Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont, the best route to MIT will be via Interstate 93 (I-93), sometimes referred to as the Central Artery or the Southeast Expressway.

From I-93, take exit 26, and follow the signs to Back Bay along Storrow Drive west. You will pass two left-hand exits, one for the Longfellow Bridge/Kendall Square and one for Back Bay/Copley Square, before reaching the left-hand exit for Route 2A/Massachusetts Avenue. Make a right at the end of the exit ramp and cross the Massachusetts Avenue Bridge. As you cross the bridge, you will be looking at MIT - the Great Dome and academic facilities are on the right, the dormitories and athletic facilities are on the left. Download the parking map (pdf) for info about the temporary parking/drop-off location and for the longer term parking areas (limited).

Parking

There will be a designated area near Stratton Student Center where you will be able to park briefly to unload luggage (see parking map (pdf) for location). A very limited number of parking spaces will be available after 2:30 pm on Thursday in the West Annex Lot on Vassar Street (see parking map (pdf) for location). Beginning at 2:30 pm on Friday and continuing throughout the entire weekend, parking will be available in West Garage, adjacent to West Annex Lot on Vassar Street (see parking map (pdf) for location).

Please do not count on finding street parking near MIT, as parking is extremely limited on campus and throughout Boston/Cambridge. We recommend that you leave your car at your hotel and either walk, take a taxi, or use public transportation to get to campus.

If you can't avoid bringing your car, you can either look for limited on-street, metered parking or park in one of the pay lots within walking distance to campus (about 5-15 mintues, depending on which lot).  The pay lots near campus are listed below for your reference (see parking map (pdf) for approximate locations).
