DOCTORAL PROGRAMDoctoral Program GuideThe doctoral program guide is a comprehensive manual of the doctoral process including program requirements, field exam and thesis proposal defense guidelines, thesis defense information, and more. These guidelines apply to you if you have taken/will take the Field Exam, or have petitioned into the new program. Field Exam DescriptionsThis document describes the field exams that will be offered in January. A student seeking entrance into the Doctoral Program in the Department of Aeronautics & Astronautics must take one of these field exams. Field Exam ApplicationThis form must be completed and submitted to AeroAstro Student Services in order to apply to take the AeroAstro Field Exam. Doctoral Minor Proposal FormThis form must be used by all doctoral candidates to organize and make official their required doctoral minor. It must be kept filed with the Doctoral Record Card in the AeroAstro Student Services Office. Doctoral Nonresident Status Petition FormThis form should be used by doctoral students who wish to apply for nonresident doctoral thesis research status. It must be filed with the Graduate Students Office one month prior to the beginning of the semester for which nonresidency is being requested. Authorization to Defend Thesis ProposalThis form must be completed and submitted in order to begin scheduling the Thesis Proposal Defense, required of all doctoral students. It must be submitted 10 working days (2 weeks) prior to the intended defense date. Authorization to Proceed with Thesis DefenseThis form must be signed by the parties indicated, and delivered to the AeroAstro Academic Programs Office no later than 20 working days prior to a thesis defense. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR OLD DOCTORAL PROGRAMThe following forms and documents are to be used only by students who have taken the old Qualifying Exams and have not petitioned into the new doctoral program. Old Doctoral Program GuideOld Doctoral Program Guide (General and Qual Exams) Doctoral General Exam ApplicationDoctoral candidates taking the General Exam must complete this form and delivered to the AeroAstro Academic Programs office at least 10 days prior to the exam. NEW GRADUATE STUDENTSTechnical Writing ExaminationAll incoming graduate students are required to take the Technical Writing Exam during the first week of classes. Please see this document for more information. Graduate Math RequirementAll graduate students must fulfill the Graduate Math Requirement. Graduate 16THG RequirementAll graduate students must register for thesis units (16 THG) every semester, including their first. Please see this document for more information. ADVISINGGraduate Advising PolicyThe Graduate Advising Policy describes different roles in the advising of doctoral and master's level students, describes the attributes of these roles, and defines those individuals who are eligible to fulfill the roles. While this is a document primarily for faculty, students will find it useful in the development of, and interaction with, committees and advisors. READMISSIONGraduate Readmission FormThis form should be used by graduate students who wish to resume a degree program after one semester of more of absence.
