AeroAstro Graduate Program Master of Science degree
The Master of Science is the degree for students who want a deeply focused study of a particular disciplinary field. If you hold a bachelor’s degree, and expect to eventually seek a doctorate, you'd normally select this program. For more information, see the MIT Course Catalogue.
Master of Science (SM) requirements
Two-year (approximately) program
- English Evaluation Test (for non-native English speakers)
- Technical writing requirement (pdf 20K)
- Math requirement (pdf 82K)
- 66 subject units, not including thesis units, in graduate subjects in the candidate's area of technical interest
- Within the 66 subject units, a minimum of 42 H-level units with at least 21 units from AeroAstro subjects
- Non-H-level subjects must carry a grade of B or better to count toward degree requirements
- Classes taken on a pass/fail basis do not count towards degree requirements
- Minimum cumulative grade point average of 4.0
- Term-by-term thesis (16THG) registration and progress evaluation
- Acceptable thesis
