How
we can help you
Core
Capabilities
Our capabilities are as broad as those
of MIT. As student or corporate interest dictates, we draw on the
expertise of a wide cross section of MIT faculty, staff, facilities
and other resources.
Technical
Areas
Several areas of expertise in the Aeronautics and Astronautics Department
and the MIT community have been identified to be of particular interest in
sports product development. These areas range from design, model and test,
to advanced materials, and communication networks.
Facilities
We have many facilities available for use
in development and research projects. Some of these include:
Wright Brothers
Wind Tunnel (WBWT) – In high speed sports (skating, skiing,
cycling) aerodynamics are crucial. WBWT has a 7x10 ft test section and
wind speed capability up to 150 mph, ideal for testing athletes or large
equipment.
Complex Systems Laboratory – CSL is our new design build
facility. It includes configurable work areas, a machine shop, an electronics
shop, fabrication areas and 3-D printing capabilities. State-of-the-art
video conferencing rooms are available for long-distance project consultations.
The Laboratory for Advanced Composites - TELAC offers a complete
fabrication and testing facility for composite materials.
Man Vehicle Laboratory - With a distinguished history of involvement
with manned space missions, MVL optimizes human-vehicle system safety
and effectiveness by improving understanding of human physiological
and cognitive capabilities.
