INFORMATION AND CONTROL ENGINEERING LABORATORY

AERIAL ROBOTICS
DESCRIPTION
A group of MIT students designed and built an autonomous aerial vehicle to participate in the 1997 International Aerial Robotics Competition that took place in Orlando, Florida. The vehicles in the contest must fly fully autonomously and be able to find and pick up various objects.

Our helicopter won second place, after Carnegie Mellon University.

The MIT team is continuing the effort to present an entry in the 1998 event. The issues involved are:

  • System integration
  • GN&C algorithms and software
  • Image recognition
  • High fidelity simulation.

This is a student-run activity, and most of the students are volunteering for the project.
