Professor Yaw Oheneba-Sakyi adds to the small but growing number of annotated bibliographies dealing with African socioeconomic issues. The 176 page book assembles in one place a number of the disparate research materials dealing with the important topics of family planning and reproductive health in Ghana. The compilation covers literature mostly spanning two decades of research (1970-1990), but also a few from the 1950s and 1960s. The book, containing a total of 936 entries, is divided into six chapters: (1) Population Dynamics; (2) Reproductive Behavior and Contraception; (3) Family Planning Programs; (4) Non-Contraceptive Factors Affecting Fertility; (5) Primary Health Care services; and (6) Population Policy and Legislation.

Each entry is listed either alphabetically by author or by title, following the classification scheme of the Population Index of the Office of Population Research, Princeton University. The information provided includes author, title, place of publication, name of publisher, year of publication, number of pages, and abstracts (where applicable). An author index and subject index complete the volume. Certainly this should be a primary reference source for those in the family planning and health-care business in Ghana and Africa. The strength of the compilation lies in the sizable number of Ghanaian scholars, researchers, medical practitioners, and governmental bodies that are referenced. For example, one of the citations dating back to the Gold Coast is the work of the Prime Minister of the Second Republic Dr. Abrefa Busia. Work of the current president and the First Lady, the Rawlings's, is also referenced. Professor Oheneba-Sakyi should be commended for a job well done.
