POSTERS
The concept of sustainability poses a challenge not only to improve the standard of living in developing countries, but also to address the underlying drivers of current unsustainable practices in developed countries. As universities we must draw on our strengths in science and engineering, social science, and economics to make available information that can help decision makers, particularly in government and industry, to make the best decisions in their specific context. Often this means finding solutions that work at scale with limited resources, and soon.
Technology plays an essential role in achieving sustainability and the AGS 'Pathways' concept focuses on identifying bridging systems, or suites of existing technologies, that can be applied immediately or in the near future — and on the policies that encourage their implementation. These pathways must also encompass the social and economic aspects of the systems in order to ensure a holistic and well-informed approach.
We invite poster abstracts on technology and policy options for achieving sustainable futures for energy, food, and water, including social, ecological, and economic aspects. We also invite submissions addressing the educational and outreach challenges to achieving sustainability in these areas. The posters should consider how technology and policy can be implemented towards a more sustainable future at scale, in time, and for all.
Accepted poster abstracts will be printed and included in the meeting packet. A poster session and competition will be held during the AGS Annual Meeting, 28-31 January 2008.
Abstract submission deadline: 26 October 2007. Please see the poster guidelines for more information.
