Techet Lab @ MIT
Professor Techet is the director of the Experimental Hydrodynamics Laboratory (EHL) at MIT. Her group’s research into such multifaceted hydrodynamic phenomena has direct implications on the design of vessels and structures operating in the ocean, as well as other areas of fluid dynamics such as naval ballistics, surface waves, vortical wakes and boundary layers, ocean energy harvesting, and geological and environmental flows. In order to advance research in these areas, complex, large-scale experimental apparatus development and non-invasive flow measurement and visualization methods, including accurate two- and three-dimensional particle image velocimetry (PIV), are paramount. Work at the EHL employs these advanced techniques coupled closely with theoretical modeling to yield improved insight into designing biologically inspired underwater vehicles, ocean surface vessels and offshore platforms, as well as ballistic projectiles for defensive weapon systems.
