Background:
I was born in Southampton, New York, but spent most of my youth in Raleigh, North Carolina,
where I went to
Ravenscroft School through 8th grade.
I attended
Phillips Academy (Andover) in Andover, Massachusetts for high school,
and while there I began playing water polo, at first on the boy’s team and
eventually on one of the first all-girls team in New England. I graduated Andover and went on to
Princeton University to study in the department of Mechanical
and Aerospace Engineering. Where I graduated with a BSE in Mechanical and Aerospace Eng and a certificate in Applied Math.
At Princeton, I was an All-American member and captain of the women’s water polo team.
I continued playing while in graduate school on the MIT women’s club
for four years, during which I was named 1997 Collegiate Club MVP.
I continue to play on the Metro Boston Water Polo Masters Team and am also active as a
referee for the United States Water Polo, Collegiate Water Polo Association, and the
New England Prep. School leagues. In addition to water polo,
I enjoy SCUBA diving, fishing and sailing.
In May 2001, I finished my PhD in the
Department of Ocean Engineering at
Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the Joint Program with
Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. I received a
S.M. degree in Oceanographic Engineering for the Joint Program in
1998.
For the AY 2001-2002 I worked at Princeton University as a post-doc
with Professor Lex Smits in the Mechanical and Aerospace department before returning to MIT as an Assistant Professor in Ocean Engineering in 2002.
