Since the breakout of Asian economic crisis in 1997, the state of education in Indonesia has gone from devastating to worse. In its effort to help Indonesian future generations to gain better access to quality education, a group of students and professionals has founded a non-profit organization called AJAR Foundation [Indonesia Belajar/ Indonesia Learning]. Founded on September 10, 1999, AJAR members consist of dedicated students and young professionals from throughout the United States, the United Kingdom, Singapore, and Indonesia.

Exposure to foreign cultures and the tremendous development in Science, Technology and Education enlightened AJAR Foundation members of the great learning gap that exist between our fellow Indonesians and the rest of the world.
