| Background: |
My full name is Alejandro Rodriguez-Wong, through I often choose
to write "Wong" as my middle name. Born in Havana Cuba, I came to
the US, not exactly what you would call legally, at the age of
thirteen. I am a byproduct of loud rumbas, a family of physics
enthusiasts, and afro-cuban folklore.
I hail from Miami, Cuba's second capital. During my sophomore year
in high school, I had an epiphany and fell deeply in love with
physics, afterwhich I became "captain physics". The obsession
became compulsive disorder and I decided to enroll at MIT in 2003,
graduating in three years while memorably struggling to finish
chemistry and biology. I am currently a lowly PhD student in the
MIT Condensed Matter Theory Group working under advisors John
D. Joannopoulos and Steven G. Johnson. I enjoy salsa dancing,
watching old films and taking Sunday strolls in Boston Commons
with my girlfriend. I am also the proud owner of three loving,
extraordinarily upbeat and intelligent parents that often act like
teenagers, one of which resides in Cuba.
