Letter from the VP of Recruitment

Hello, and welcome to Alpha Phi!

As visitors to this site, you are probably curious about the Zeta Phi chapter of Alpha Phi. I hope that you can find the answers to all your questions within these pages. Please feel free to explore our site to learn anything and everything about our sorority, from social events to living in our house to our academic programming. Alpha Phi is not merely a living group or a social organization, it is so much more – and hopefully we can express this to you.

Recruitment is right around the corner, and you may have many questions about what Alpha Phi is like and about potentially joining Alpha Phi. There is a Recruitment section that addresses some of these topics; there is also a link to sign up for Panhellenic Recruitment. I encourage every unaffiliated woman to sign up for recruitment to explore the opportunities Greek life brings. For parents of potential sorority women, a Parents page in this site touches upon many questions parents frequently have.

Thank you so much for your interest in Alpha Phi! We have truly found a home in Alpha Phi, and we hope that, after exploring this site, you can begin to understand why. If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to email me at mcnick@MIT.EDU.

Sincerely,

Kathryn McNickle
Vice President of Recruitment

SocialAt Alpha Phi, we thrive on a healthy dosage of social activities to balance MIT’s rigorous schoolwork. We mix at least once a month with many of the 29 fraternities at MIT. We also have date events, like our popular “Find a Mister for Your Sister,” in which the entire sorority was set up on blind dates for a night on the town…

Our HouseThe pride and joy of Alpha Phi, the house is as gorgeous as the girls that live inside it. Built in 1911, the two houses still possess the original woodworking and delicate moldings. The entryway leads to the lobby, parlor, and circular dining room, as well as the main grand staircase. One flight up is the chapter room, where weekly meetings are held, and the paneled library, which is always open to sisters and their guests to use for study sessions…

RecruitmentAlpha Phi is a diverse group of girls, ranging in age from 18 to 22. We hail from all different locations and backgrounds, public and private schools, and a wide range of sports teams, activities, and interests. There is no Alpha Phi “type;” rather, we’ve found that it is impossible to characterize us simply and with only one or two words. Similarly, Alpha Phi is interested in every freshman girl that walks in during recruitment…

AcademicsDespite being formed to provide an environment outside of schoolwork, academics are important to Alpha Phi. A walk through the house on any weekday night proves this – sisters can be found studying in their rooms or with groups in the dining room or study. Still others are relaxing in the TV room, enjoying a night off from the work that MIT loads on…
