Advanced Study Program
The Advanced Study Program (ASP) provides the opportunity for lifelong learning to working professionals. The program unites the individual educational needs of key people in an organization and the specific requirements of that organization with the vast educational resources of MIT.
Client Need
ASP decided to take a multimedia approach to reaching more applicants. Having already developed a short video promoting the program for its website, the group decided to create a CD of the video and package it with a print brochure and other promotional information about the program. They contacted Academic Media Production Services (AMPS) to design and produce a CD that would fit with their current print materials.
Strategy
Two groups within AMPS collaborated to design and deliver the CD. A project manager from the streaming media team served as the single point of contact for the client. After determining client needs and resources required, he assembled an AMPS team with the necessary competencies: design, interactive programming, encoding and duplication.
A graphic designer from the web team designed and built the files for the CD interface. The interface design was adapted for optimal on-screen viewing and user interaction. During development, the designer posted mockups of the CD screen interfaces on the web so the client could easily see the emerging design and provide feedback. When the design was set, the designer turned over the files to an interactive programmer and worked closely with him to provide a seamless transition from the concept and design stage to the interactive application.
Results
AMPS delivered a professionally produced CD, complete with a silk-screened label that fit the design of the print materials, and ASP is happy with the results. “It is a very good tool to promote the Advanced Study Program by direct mail,” said Jennifer Stine, Executive Director of Professional Education Programs. “We can also distribute it in other venues such as seminars and on-site visits at companies. We are very pleased.”
