Accomplished Sunday: - Designed and built two ridiculously sturdy sawhorses - Lifted the body on top of them (quite an accomplishment for only four of us, plus two passers-by recruited by Amrys) - Re-connected left front body panel - Replaced left firewall-to-front-wheel-well stiffener plate Observations: - The car is now perched nearly four feet in the air. It's an impressive sight. It certainly *looks* like a bad idea. - We are not to use the dumpster on the street under any circumstances. - If anyone thinks 1600 lbs. is a bad body weight estimate, please raise your hand... before it's too late. - Important tools we don't have yet: angle grinder, MIG welder, and maybe 240V electric service (depending on welder) - Does anyone know of a hardware store nearby that sells extension drill bits (e.g. aircraft drills or bellhanger's drills?) Kaufman Co. screwed me over when they moved their wonderful warehouse from Second St., Cambridge to f*ckin' Norwood. NORWOOD!! Projects for Monday: - Buy, use extension drill for 3/8-16 clearance hole and bolt completely through the sawhorses at the top. (We only go part way through now.) - Disassemble doors, strip unnecessary components, reassemble. This is necessary to reduce weight (particularly in the front doors) and to create space for the expanding foam that we will fill them with. - Design the hull structure - Design the front/rear compartment dividers - Scavenger hunt for materials (sheet steel, misc. A36 structural steel including angle iron for runners) MONDAY - 7:30 PM - BROOKLINE As Karen aptly points out, it's no longer a car... it's a boat. Clarification: "Unnecessary components" refers to the glass, any side-impact bracing, and possibly the window frames (since it's going to be a convertible). We also need to inspect the inside of the doors to verify that the outer panels are mostly steel and not huge patches of Bondo, which would be structurally unacceptable. Additions: - Vacuum the interior of the car to remove remaining smelly bits - Remove the last wads of stuffing from the back seat cushions Notes to Self: - Bring Shop Vac, and big broom for daily site cleanup
