Accomplished Wednesday: - Karen began grinding seams and holes - Scraped goop off transverse floor panel seams - Started removing stuff (e.g. trim panels, parking brake control) from front kick space - Started removing stuff from the firewall area - Successfully executed Operation Interphase - Began cutting angle iron (from old EC bed frames) to form pontoon bottom runner structures Observations: - Pontoons redesigned to 17" height and 22" top width, tapering in triangles fore and aft of the 6' (approx.) passenger tub. Still looking for steel to sheath them all... note location of cruftable pieces of light gauge sheet steel 6' or longer. - Simulations of this design predict a fully-laden waterline just a couple of inches above the door bottoms. - A neighbor requested that we take precautions to avoid setting fire to her tree. Please consult with me prior to setting any tree fires. - Karen plans to arrive super early tomorrow to finish major grinding work before cars show up and before self-imposed noise curfew (9 PM). - To minimize on-site noise, we plan to take the doors back to Cruftlabs for chopping, grinding, paint prep, and drilling to accomodate rudder control cable conduit (which will run through the inside of the doors, just below the top). - Scott will acquire supplies: * new plug for welder * welding helmets (does EC still have any?) Long-term Outlook: Pontoons and doors should be complete by the end of this weekend. That allows a leisurely pace next week for fore and aft compartment waterproofing, engine and trunk floatation and structural concerns, expanding foam work, painting, propulsion, electrical accessories, upholstery repair, in-water testing, and more! Projects for Thursday: - Finish scraping sealant from floor seams - Finish removing stuff (esp. bolts that penetrate firewall) from front kickspace - Grind all known weld seams - Wire-brush areas of large rusty scale to verify material integrity or prepare for patchwork - Get MIG welder set up and running - Rough-in of pontoon bottom runner structures (if Steve is ready) - Bring doors (and scrap metal) back to Cruftlabs THURSDAY - 7:00 PM - ACTUALLY 5:00 IF YOUR LAST NAME IS ROBINSON We promise to have non-door-related tasks.
