Welcome new members/freshmen! Welcome back returning students! Hope everyone had a productive and relaxing summer. We bring you exciting news from AMSA (American Medical School Association). Our first meeting will be a fun "get to know the exec" study break for those of you who are working hard (or hardly working :b ) next Tuesday, September 16th, at 7 pm in room 4-144. We will have FREE food! Basically, we want to get to know you all a little better and see what we can do to help you with your medical school ambitions.

Are you preparing for medical school interviews and wishing someone could outline important Healthcare issues for you? Are you often confused with how the Healthcare system works and what the whole "big deal" is? With the election in a few weeks, many of you also probably have questions over how the new president's Healthcare policies will affect prospective doctors like you!
This Wednesday Dr. David Jones, an HST professor at MIT, will be speaking about Healthcare issues. He is an amazing speaker, and this is a talk that you don't want to miss!
Kandy for Kids

In preparation for "Kandy for Kids" at Shriner's Hospital, we will be bagging candy and making cards for the burn victims. We will be going to Shriner's Children Hospital on Saturday, November 1st, at 11am. Be sure and mark off that date in your calendars!

Applying to Medical School - Dr. Byrne

Dr. Thomas Byrne, concurrently a neuro-oncologist at MGH, a Harvard-MIT HST professor, a member of the HST MD admissions committee, and a professor in BCS, has agreed to attend our meeting to explain what medical schools, Harvard Medical School to be more specific, look for in an applicant. He is also willing to discuss any concerns you might have as a pre-med at MIT. This is an EXCELLENT opportunity for you to ask any questions about extracurricular, academics, GPA, MCAT scores, or the application process in general.

Ever wonder how you can get into Harvard Medical? Ever wonder what the medical school admissions process is really like? Have questions about what it takes to become a doctor? Come listen to Dr. Michael Bailin talk about his experiences. Dr. Bailin is an anesthesiologist, previous MIT premedical advisor, and a member of the HMS admissions committee for over a decade. He is an amazing speaker, and this is a talk that you don't want to miss!

Premed dinner with Dr. Essigmann

Dr. Essigmann, a professor of chemistry and toxicology and a housemaster at MIT, will discuss, "Lethal mutagenesis as a novel treatment for HIV/AIDS." The premed dinner with Dr. Essigmann will be in 5-134. Dr. Essigmann is a great lecturer and has been cited as not only for exceptional teaching but also for his innovative curriculum development. He helped to create the class "Biotechnology and Engineering" which is one of the most popular subjects at MIT. If you want to see what all the hype is about, please stop by.

Changing Lives One at a Time

We are pleased to announce our next general body meeting. In association
with the "Operation Smile" organization, we will be making and decorating
little cloth dolls for children undergoing surgery. "Operation Smile"
organization helps children that are born with cleft lips, cleft palates and
other facial deformities. The dolls we make will help alleviate the fear of
anesthesia masks, needles, and other medical procedures/instruments. These
gifts will make a difference for the children! Half of the dolls we make will
go directly to the children, and the other half will be sold to raise money for
the charity. Please come and help us in this meaningful cause and show your creativity
at the same time! As always, food will be provided.
