Both are things we have shown part of before, but neither in its entirety. They're both really good so be sure to use summer to catch up on some great anime. Although this week doesn't have any samplers, don't fear, there are open slots in future showings for us to give you a taste of the new best thing in Japanese animation. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Brattle Anime Festival The Brattle Theatre's Anime Festival is this weekend. The festival starts on Saturday, June 2 at noon and runs for 24 hours. Tickets are $25 for advance and students and $35 at the door. Confirmed titles include: Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Eureka Seven, Origin: Spirits of the Past, The Real Folk Blues: Cowboy Bebop episodes 5, 25 and 26, The Prince of Tennis, Great Teacher Onizuka, Otaku no Video, Gantz, Azumanga Daioh! The main event is an international picnic (potluck, so please bring a contribution of food and/or drink); there will also be cosplay/photoshoots, gatherings of local anime clubs, and possibly "Cosplay Clue." Anyone is welcome to attend the event. More information may be found at the Anime Boston forum for the event (1). REUNION - the latest details are all there. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Temperature Unfortunately we do not have access to a thermostat for 6-120, so we'd suggesting being prepared for a wide range of possible temperatures. Air conditioning season has started, so if last week's experience is a guide, it may be surprisingly cold during the showing: consider bringing a sweater or jacket. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Membership Forms New membership forms are available for people who want to join or need to renew their memberships. Membership information (including a downloadable membership form) is online at: . ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Pizza This week's pizza options: $1.50 Plain cheese $2.00 Pepperoni $2.00 Hawaiian (ham + pineapple) (this week; rotates) Future weeks will have: - Feta Cheese - Pastrami - Sausage - Grilled Chicken - Buffalo Grilled Chicken - Hamburger - Bacon - Hawaiian (ham + pineapple) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Library The library is open again for checkouts for the summer. Our inventory is ongoing, so the cataloging of new acquisitions will be delayed a bit longer. If you are going to be returning any items from before May 20th, they are overdue. Be prepared to pay a late fee of $1 per item, cash or check made out to "MIT Anime Club". Because of a staff shortage, there will probably not be checkouts at next week's (June 8th) showing. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Silence I would tell you not to talk during the showing but the brain hack will subdue the noisy ones anyway, so I don't think it's necessary. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Programme 7:10 Twelve Kingdoms (Juuni Kokki) 1-3 Our first summer series tells the story of Youko, a model student. The teachers at her new school mistake her for a slacker because they think her red hair is the result of dye, while her parents think her refusal to dye her red hair black is a sign of rebelliousness. That's bad enough, but lately she's been tormented by strange dreams that leave her with a sense of dread. The dreams turn to reality one day during a break between classes. An oddly dressed stranger confronts her in the classroom and implores her to accept his service. Before he can explain, the windows shatter and the school is under attack by monsters. Youko is herself possessed by a spirit that lets her wield a sword in defense. Within minutes Youko and two of her classmates find themselves swept away to another world, where the attacks continue, and their guide is separated from them. Alone in a strange world, will they be able to master their destinies? With character designs from Akihiro Yamada, character designer for RahXephon, and the voice talent of Aya Hisakawa as Youko. 8:55 Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 1-7 We showed a sample of this series in the fall and we're going to show all of it over the summer. Most of the time we try to avoid popular US releases, as we believe they have enough exposure already, but this show is good and deserves to be shown in it's entirety. Major Motoko Kusanagi and the other variously cyber-enhanced members of Public Security Section 9 solve crimes and keep order with a combination of quick wits, hacking skills, and superior firepower. The TV series has a separate continuity from the movies or the manga, but includes all of your favorite characters, including AI mini-tanks like the manga's that didn't make the cut for the movie. Because this a long series, some showings (including tonight's) will run through midnight, but we've planned the schedule so that the episodes we show in the 11-12 block can be missed without throwing off the continuity of the main story arcs. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- (This showing is made possible in part with funding from Finboard and the Undergraduate Association of MIT.)
