For all our student members out there I hope you'll consider running for a position or, failing that, send in your vote. Remember that all the great things we provide are only possible through the hard work of the officers of the club, so we urge all of you to help that. Of course, around the actual election process we will present you with more fabulous anime, as well as the (gasp) conclusion of Dennou Coil. I know this makes some of you sad, but all good things must come to an end. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Elections Help make the club better! At this week's showing, we will be holding elections for next years' officers. Elected positions are: - President - Vice President - Secretary - Treasurer To hold these positions, you must be an MIT student (undergraduate or graduate). In addition, there are a number of important appointed offices (librarian, industrial liaison(s), acquisitions, publicity, communications), along with many voluntary positions that help keep the club running, keep the showings happening, and keep the library functioning. Please send a note to anime-inquiry to register your interest in running for office, and talk to the club officers about what it's like to be an officer. We have a page describing the election procedure here: http://web.mit.edu/anime/www/elections.html ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Karaoke Karaoke will be on Saturday May 3 in room 4-270, from 2-5pm. Everyone is welcome. We've got plenty of timed songs, so even if you didn't make a request this time around, we'll have something for you to sing! Snacks and beverages provided. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Geneon going-out-of-business DVD donation drive So if you've been thinking about sponsoring a disc but haven't now's your chance, what better way to prove your love for a series than buying it for us. ^^ In late September, it was announced that Geneon, one of the largest US anime companies, is getting out of the DVD sales business. Unfortunately, there were still a lot of DVDs we wanted to buy from them! To supplement our normal acquisitions budget of money from the UA, memberships, and refreshments, we're also asking for your help in picking up good series that might be going away for good. For more information, see: http://web.mit.edu/anime/www/donations/geneon-oob-2007.html ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Membership Did your club membership expire in January? Renew now for continued library checkouts and other membership privileges. Or start a new membership for the term, the year, or a longer period. Ask for a form at the showing or print it in advance from our web site at: http://web.mit.edu/anime/register/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Pizza We'll be using the same token-based pizza sales system we have been using for awhile: we'll sell tokens two episodes before intermission that you can exchange for slices during intermission. This week's pizza options are: $1.50 Plain cheese $2.00 Pepperoni $2.00 Sausage (this week's feature flavor) Future weeks will feature: - Grilled Chicken - Hawaiian (ham + pineapple) - Hamburger - Sausage ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Pizza Ordering Procedure To bring you a more reliable pizza experience, we're going to be taking orders using a new procedure. Instead of taking a poll on the blackboard and then selling slices for cash, we'll sell tokens early in the evening which can be exchanged for slices during intermission. If there are extra slices, we'll sell tokens for them at intermission, but advance orders will get priority. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Library We've got a second digisub sampler DVD+RW for the spring season this week, with a bunch of new shows and very little overlap from last time. As always these are not intended to be playable in stand-alone DVD players: they're intended for computers, like our CD-Rs, but have a higher capacity. This week's sampler will contain at least: Allison and Lillia* 1-2 Amatsuki* 1 Crystal Blaze* 1 Golgo 13 TV* 1 Himitsu ~Top Secret~ The Revelation* 1 Itazura na Kiss* 1 Junjou Romantica* 1 Kaiba* 1-2 Kamen no Maid Guy* 1 Macross Frontier 1-2* Monochrome Factor* 1 Penguin Musume Heart* 1 RD Sennou Chousashitsu* 1 Soul Eater* 1 Toshokan Sensou* 1-2 (Asterisks indicate whether the series is completely new this time around, or what's new is more episodes) You can request one of these DVD+RWs in the normal way. The discs are counted separately from the other limits on borrowing, but you should only ever have one out at once (we won't keep old ones circulating, since we want to reuse the discs). ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Silence If you talk during the anime, you will be found and dealt with by the cubes. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Programme 7:10 Ai Yori Aoshi 1-2 If you take this series at face value, a pretty good description would be that it's a harem anime. If you like harem anime, then you will like this anime, it's good. I'm going to try to describe why it's a good show aside from the harem elements and why you should come watch it. What sets this show apart is that the two main characters don't know it's a harem anime. To them, the story is a sweet developing romance between two childhood friends. The first two episodes display this very well (in fact, the other members of the harem don't start appearing until episode 5), and that alone should be enough for you to come watch them. Moreover, while there is plenty of silliness in the anime, it comes of as a lot more mature than the average harem anime. It's certainly a lot more realistic. I could give more thorough explanation of what makes that true, but watching the first two episodes would do far better justice than I can do here. 9:00 Dennou Coil 22-26 (concludes) In the near future, virtual computer-generated objects coexist with real ones - if you're wearing cyberspace-enabled glasses. Yuuko Okonogi moves to Daikoku City with her parents, her little sister, and her cyberdog Densuke, and gets caught up in the strange events happening in that city's cyberspace. Everything about this series is well-done - the Miyazaki-esque artwork, the augmented-reality interfaces, the character interactions - and don't miss the Mojos. 11:05 Allison and Lillia 1-2 The story takes place on a continent where two countries are separated by Lutoni River and Central Mountains. The two countries, the Confederation of Roxche and the United Kingdom of Bezel Iltoa have been at war for over a century and now settled on a cease fire. Allison is a pilot in the Roxche air force and one day reunites with Will, her companion from the House of Future, where they were orphans. Together they find themselves embroiled in an adventure in enemy territory to find a fabled treasure that will hopefully end the war and bring peace to both countries. *Blurb borrowed from the Anime News Network* ----------------------------------------------------------------------- (This showing is made possible in part with funding from Finboard and the Undergraduate Association of MIT.)
