They mostly won't be getting this announcement but the rest of you should be on your best behavior. In the interest of impressing the new people we're showing what we think are some of the most interesting anime. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Open Officer Positions Help make the club better! For the next month or so we will be looking to fill the positions which remain after elections. The one elected position which remains is: - Secretary To hold these positions, you must be an MIT student (undergraduate or graduate). In addition, there are a number of important appointed offices (industrial liaison(s), acquisitions, communications), along with many voluntary positions that help keep the club running, keep the showings happening, and keep the library functioning. Please send a note to anime-inquiry to register your interest in running for office, and talk to the club officers about what it's like to be an officer. We have a page describing the election procedure here: http://web.mit.edu/anime/www/elections.html ----------------------------------------------------------------------- No Library at this Showing (7/29/2008) Due to all the library related people being away this week, there will be no library services at the showing. We apologize for this inconvenience, but hopefully one week won't be too bad. If it really bothers you, you can always stop in for office hours. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Membership Did your club membership expire in June? Renew now for continued library checkouts and other membership privileges. Or start a new membership for the term, the year, or a longer period. Ask for a form at the showing or print it in advance from our web site at: http://web.mit.edu/anime/register/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Pizza We'll be using the same token-based pizza sales system we have been using for awhile: we'll sell tokens two episodes before intermission that you can exchange for slices during intermission. This week's pizza options are: $1.50 Plain cheese $2.00 Pepperoni $2.00 Grilled Chicken (this week's feature flavor) Future weeks will feature: - Hawaiian (ham + pineapple) - Hamburger - Sausage - Grilled Chicken ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Pizza Ordering Procedure To bring you a more reliable pizza experience, we're going to be taking orders using a new procedure. Instead of taking a poll on the blackboard and then selling slices for cash, we'll sell tokens early in the evening which can be exchanged for slices during intermission. If there are extra slices, we'll sell tokens for them at intermission, but advance orders will get priority. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Library No Library Services at this showing. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Silence The last thing anybody wants to hear is you talking during the anime. Save it for the intermission. Be good. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Programme 7:10 Eureka 7 1-2 Renton Thurston is a 14-year-old boy who lived with his mechanic grandfather in a backwater town. Every day he dreamed of being with the mercenary "Light Finding Operation (LFO)" aircraft pilot group "Gekkostate" and riding "Trapar" particle waves-- a sport called "reffing"-- with their charismatic leader Holland, especially when faced with his father's acclaimed past or his grandfather's desire to protect him. When a young girl named Eureka riding the original LFO, the "Nirvash typeZERO", asks his grandfather for a tune-up, she inadvertently brings the attention of the military to the garage; as a result, the garage is destroyed and Renton is forced to deliver a new type of interface-- the "Amita Drive"-- to the Nirvash. After a heated fight in which the Nirvash destroys the military LFOs by unleashing an immense amount of power, Renton is invited into Gekkostate. However, he quickly realizes that behind the facade of a traveling group of mercenaries is a very bitter reality. 8:10 Genshiken 1-2 This series should be familiar to most anime fans and probably hits close to home for most you. It's about an club which focuses on anime, manga, and other forms of the otaku culture. It is funny and enlightening. 9:20 Akira movie >From the liner notes: Neo-Tokyo has risen from the ashes of World War III to become a dark and dangerous megalopolis infested with gangs and terrorists. The government seethes with corruption and only maintains a token control over the powerful military that prevents total chaos and hides the secrets of the past. Childhood friends Tetsuo and Kaneda plunge into Neo-TokyoÔ darkest secret when their motorcycle gang encounters a military operation to retrieve an escaped experimental subject. Tetsuo, captured by the military, is subjected to experiments that make him a powerful psychic, but, unfortunately for Neo-Tokyo, TetsuoÔ powers rage out of control and he lashes out at the world that has oppressed him! Nothing can stop the destructive forces that Tetsuo wields except possibly the last boy to destroy Tokyo. 11:05 Revolutionary Girl Utena 1-2 A stylistic masterpiece. A watershed. Your anime viewing is not complete if you haven't puzzled your way through this series. It puts the "show" in shoujo. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- (This showing is made possible in part with funding from Finboard and the Undergraduate Association of MIT.)
