We've reached the conclusion of two of our shows. Our next showing will be Dec 5th. Enjoy Thanksgiving. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Karaoke!! We're hosting an karaoke event again which is always fun. Send requests to anime-inquiry at mit.edu of your favorite anime music. If you can't think of anything we still have a nice collection which you can see at: http://web.mit.edu/anime/www/library-audio.html ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Open Officer Positions Help make the club better! For the next month or so we will be looking to fill the positions which remain after elections. The one elected position which remains is: - Secretary To hold these positions, you must be an MIT student (undergraduate or graduate). In addition, there are a number of important appointed offices (industrial liaison(s), acquisitions, communications), along with many voluntary positions that help keep the club running, keep the showings happening, and keep the library functioning. Please send a note to anime-inquiry to register your interest in running for office, and talk to the club officers about what it's like to be an officer. We have a page describing the election procedure here: http://web.mit.edu/anime/www/elections.html ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Membership Did your club membership expire in June? Renew now for continued library checkouts and other membership privileges. Or start a new membership for the term, the year, or a longer period. Ask for a form at the showing or print it in advance from our web site at: http://web.mit.edu/anime/register/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Pizza We'll be using the same token-based pizza sales system we have been using for awhile: we'll sell tokens two episodes before intermission that you can exchange for slices during intermission. This week's pizza options are: $1.50 Plain cheese $2.00 Pepperoni $2.00 Sausage (this week's feature flavor) Future weeks will feature: - Grilled Chicken - Hawaiian (ham + pineapple) - Hamburger - Sausage ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Pizza Ordering Procedure To bring you a more reliable pizza experience, we're going to be taking orders using a new procedure. Instead of taking a poll on the blackboard and then selling slices for cash, we'll sell tokens early in the evening which can be exchanged for slices during intermission. If there are extra slices, we'll sell tokens for them at intermission, but advance orders will get priority. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Library We still have the newish sampler from before. These are fall series some of which we've played already. As always these are not intended to be playable in stand-alone DVD players: they're intended for computers, like our CD-Rs, but have a higher capacity. This week's sampler will contain: Kyou no 5 no 2 1 Akane-iro ni Somaru Saka 1-2 Toaru Majutsu no Index 1 Macademi WAsshoi 1 Shikabanehime Aka 1 Chaos Head 1 Earl and Fairy 1 Hyakko 1 Toradora 1-2 Casshern SINS 1 Tales of the Abyss 1-2 Ga-Rei-Zero 1 Yozakura Quartet 1 Kemeko DX 1 Vampire Knight Guilty 1 You can request one of these DVD+RWs in the normal way, but since we need to burn them in advance, supplies will be limited for requests made at the last minute. The discs are counted separately from the other limits on borrowing, but you should only ever have one out at once (we won't keep old ones circulating, since we want to reuse the discs). ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Silence If you talk during the anime you'll suffer a horrible fate at the hands of ghosts. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Programme 7:10 Gankutsuoh 21-24 Dumas' "The Count of Monte Cristo" transplanted to a future with cities on the moon. Despite the colorful pallette, it will appeal to your inner Goth. Absolutely stunning animation --- the clothes of many of the characters are treated as transparencies into various textures and images. As they move, the textures and images do not move in synch. This produces an odd, and I think interesting effect: in lit-crit mode, I might speculate that the disorienting effect it has on the audience mirrors the disoriented state of the callow young aristocrat getting his first taste of lunar decadence. Beautiful and innovative. 9:20 Mushishi 23-26 Ginko is a mushishi --- an expert in "mushi", quasi-biological ectoplasmic creatures that come in a variety of unusual species. As he wanders through a rural Japan reminiscent of an earlier age, he tries to help people afflicted by mushi problems, with varying degrees of success. This anime adapts Yuki Urushibara's award-winning manga series, sticking quite close to the original stories but bringing the lush landscapes to life in vibrant color. The series has a distinctive atmosphere reminiscent of traditional Japanese folk takes, but also manages to stay fresh with a parade of creatures each weirder that the last. 11:05 Ga-rei-Zero 1-2 The Japanese Ministry of Defense has an anti-paranormal special forces group called the Supernatural Disaster Prevention Agency. They're the ones responsible to protect Japanese soil and its people from supernatural and paranormal events. However, things didn't go so well in one of their missions, which leads to intervention by the Ministry of Enviroment's Supernatural Disaster Countermeasures Division after the SDPA has sustained large numbers of casualties battling demons. *Thanks to Anime News Network for the blurb* ----------------------------------------------------------------------- (This showing is made possible in part with funding from Finboard and the Undergraduate Association of MIT.)
