I expect everyone to show up for this showing, if not at least enjoy the weekend. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Elections Help make the club better! In early May, we'll be holding elections for next year's officers. We would love for a bunch of people to help out. Here are the positions: - President - Vice President - Treasurer - Secretary To hold these positions, you must be an MIT student (undergraduate or graduate). In addition, there are a number of important appointed offices (industrial liaison(s), acquisitions, communications), along with many voluntary positions that help keep the club running, keep the showings happening, and keep the library functioning. Please send a note to anime-inquiry to register your interest in running for office, and talk to the club officers about what it's like to be an officer. We have a page describing the election procedure here: http://web.mit.edu/anime/www/elections.html ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Karaoke Karaoke is coming up again, be sure to get your requests in by next Friday. The event itself will be on May 9th room TBA. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Membership Did your club membership expire in January? Renew now for continued library checkouts and other membership privileges. Or start a new membership for the term, the year, or a longer period. Ask for a form at the showing or print it in advance from our web site at: http://web.mit.edu/anime/register/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Pizza This is the current plan for pizza, it might change on relatively short notice. We'll be using the same token-based pizza sales system we have been using for awhile: we'll sell tokens two episodes before intermission that you can exchange for slices during intermission. This week's pizza options are: $1.50 Plain cheese $2.00 Pepperoni $2.00 Hawaiian (ham + pineapple) (this week's feature flavor) Future weeks will feature: - Hamburger - Sausage - Grilled Chicken - Hawaiian (ham + pineapple) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Pizza Ordering Procedure To bring you a more reliable pizza experience, we're going to be taking orders using a new procedure. Instead of taking a poll on the blackboard and then selling slices for cash, we'll sell tokens early in the evening which can be exchanged for slices during intermission. If there are extra slices, we'll sell tokens for them at intermission, but advance orders will get priority. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Library We still have the newish sampler from before. These are fall series some of which we've played already. As always these are not intended to be playable in stand-alone DVD players: they're intended for computers, like our CD-Rs, but have a higher capacity. This week's sampler will contain: Kyou no 5 no 2 1 Akane-iro ni Somaru Saka 1-2 Toaru Majutsu no Index 1 Macademi WAsshoi 1 Shikabanehime Aka 1 Chaos Head 1 Earl and Fairy 1 Hyakko 1 Toradora 1-2 Casshern SINS 1 Tales of the Abyss 1-2 Ga-Rei-Zero 1 Yozakura Quartet 1 Kemeko DX 1 Vampire Knight Guilty 1 You can request one of these DVD+RWs in the normal way, but since we need to burn them in advance, supplies will be limited for requests made at the last minute. The discs are counted separately from the other limits on borrowing, but you should only ever have one out at once (we won't keep old ones circulating, since we want to reuse the discs). Look forward to a new sampler CD with winter shows soon. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Silence Be silent or you'll find out the hard way that war is hell. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Programme 7:10 Pumpkin Scissors 9-12 Three years after the end of the long-running war with the Republic of Frost, the Royal Empire is still far from recovered. This latest military drama from GONZO follows Second Lieutenant Alice Malvin and the rest of her strangely-named brigade as they help citizens throughout the empire recover their dignity. They are aided in this difficult task by the arrival of Corporal Randal Orlando, a large man who is usually quiet, until it comes time for battle: then his preferred targets are tanks. 9:20 Detroit Metal City 1-7 The time is 972 A.D. in Kyoto, the capital of ancient Japan. Kyoto is becoming a corrupt and run-down city; selfish samurai and onmyoji, who care only about gaining political power are everywhere. To make matters worse the city is suffering from famine and widespread disease. Unable to ignore the condition of the city any longer, the Imperial Court decides to send Minamoto no Raiko, a famous samurai well-known for his archery skills, to recover a legendary gem said to hold mysterious power to save the world. However Raiko also falls ill to disease. Instead his youngest sister, Hikaru, decides secretely to make the journey in his place. Hikaru meets many people, and has many adventures while on her trip for the legendary gem. *Blurb Borrowed from Anime News Network* 11:05 Rocket Girls 5-6 High school student Morita Yukari goes in search of her father, who disappeared on his honeymoon in the Solomon Islands. Meanwhile, the Solomon Space Agency is trying to figure out how to start up their fledgling space program - but the new rockets keep failing, and the old rockets can't handle the weight requirements of a capsule for a full-grown man. I wonder what will happen next? A short (12-episode), fun series that mentions Hohmann transfer orbits, produced with the assistance of the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- (This showing is made possible in part with funding from Finboard and the Undergraduate Association of MIT.)
