Oh, how to explain Azumanga Daioh?
Azumanga Daioh is a quirky shoujo comedy based on a popular 4-panel comic strip about middle-school life among a group of friends and three of their teachers (two of whom are not particularly good role models) . The comic strip (manga) is by Kiyohiko Azuma, and it appeared in the monthly Dengeki Daioh. Combining these produces the name Azumanga Daioh. Everything about the series displays a trademark quirkiness: the character designs, the voice acting, the music. The show has been compared to Seinfeld for the way that it finds comedy in the events of everyday life and the daily interactions of a group of friends. The series is wildly popular in Japan, with at least two of its characters (Chiyo-chan and Osaka) regularly appearing in the top ten of the character-popularity polls.
