Library Rules and Office Hours

While we try to showcase the best of anime in our weekly screenings, there's a lot more out there than we can possibly show. Therefore, we also maintain a large collection of anime and manga in our circulating library: members in good standing with a security deposit on file can check out discs and other material to watch on their own time and according to their own tastes.

We hold weekly office hours in our library in 50-356 (third floor of Walker). All are invited to come in during these times to browse our extensive collections, and members may use these hours to check out material for their home viewing pleasure. In addition, non-members are also free to come in and read our manga and watch our anime during this time.

Members may also request items for checkout for pickup at showings or delivery to an on-campus address via this online form.

How to request items for checkout

Requests are not necessary if you come to office hours to check items out. However, if you would like to either pick up items at a Friday showing or have them delivered to your on-campus MIT address, please fill out the online library request form or send an e-mail to anime-library@mit.edu.
  • For pick ups at showings, items will be handed out during intermissions; you must be present to claim them. Please put in your request by e-mail or form ahead of time (no later than noon on the day of the showing), or in writing at the previous week's showing.
  • For delivery, please provide a valid MIT on-campus address. Items will be mailed or hand-delivered in our custom mailers; these mailers feature removeable address cards in "To" and "Return Address" slots, which may be swapped to be returned to the library via Interdepartmental Mail (NOT United States Postal Service). You will receive an e-mail when your item has been mailed. Interdepartmental mailtimes may vary, so if you do not receive your items within a week of mailing, please contact the library at anime-library@mit.edu and we will work to sort it out.
  • Use the item ID numbers in your request (titles are optional), and please do not request items that don't appear on the lists.
  • Request items in priority order, and we will best to give you the highest-ranking titles that do not conflict with other people's requests. You may wish to request more items than you expect to get in order to maximize the number of requests we can fulfill for you. If you wish to check out fewer items than the checkout limit (5 items per item type for up to 25 items), please specify this in your e-mail or form entry.

Library Checkout Polices

  • Checkouts are limited to current club members with a refundable security deposit on file.
  • Members may check out up to: 5 DVDs, 5 digital fansub CD-ROMs, 5 VHS tapes, 5 audio CDs, and 5 miscellaneous items, for at most twenty-five items out at any given time.
  • Items may be returned during office hours, at any showing or event, and by MIT Interdepartmental Mail (NOT United States Postal Service. No postage required) to the following address:
    MIT Anime Club
    Room 50-356
To return items through Interdepartmental Mail, please place them in a sturdy package envelope or in one of our custom mailers provided via delivery checkout. Simply swap the address cards in the "To" and "Return Address" slots on the mailer and drop it into any Interdepartmental Mailbox.
  • Items are due back in one month, but may be renewed by e-mail or in person for up to 2 months. You may turn them in early if you wish in order to check out new material. You will not be allowed to check out additional items if you have overdue items checked out.
  • If you lose, break, scratch, demagnetize, or otherwise render a title uncirculatable, you will be held responsible for the replacement cost of the title.
