How to change your password
- If you know your password and want to change it, then type the following
command while logged in:
passwd
This will ask you for your old password, and ask you to type in the new
password twice. Your new password takes effect immediately.
(If you want to exit without changing your password, type Ctrl-c.)
You may also change your password using a web browser at:
http://wserv.mit.edu/cpw
If you are on a Mac or Windows machine, and have the MIT Kerberos
Utilies installed, you may change your password using that utility.
For more information on this method, please contact the Computing Help
Desk at x3-1101 or computing-help@mit.edu
- If you have forgotten your password or get the message "Password incorrect"
when you try to login, you can come to N42 (front desk) during these
hours:
Mon, Wed, Fri 2PM-5PM
Tues and Thurs 9AM-12 Noon
Please remember to bring some form of photo ID. Users who can't stop by
N42 during those hours should call the accounts consultants at x3-1325
or send mail to "accounts@mit.edu".
If you have forgotten your password, but you have a valid MIT
Personal Certificate on your machine, you may change your password
using a web browser at:
http://wserv.mit.edu/cpw
Because your MIT Personal Certificate can now be used to change your
password, it is imperative that you protect it with its own
certificate password, in the event that your computer is stolen.
For more information on how to do this, please see:
