How to fix problems with arrow/control keys
If you are using NCSA Telnet on a Macintosh, you should look under the
Sessions menu for the Setup Keys option. Selecting this will open up a
dialog box. In this dialog box, you should erase the ^S, ^Q, and ^C and
click on OK, since otherwise NCSA Telnet will capture those keys for its
own use (and thus not pass them through to your Athena dialup session).
When using the Microsoft Windows 3.1 built-in terminal program on a
PC, pressing the arrow keys will move the scrollbars on your windows,
but will not do anything in your dialup session. This problem may
also be seen with characters like control-c. To fix this, you have to
tell Windows not to grab the arrow or control keys at all. This can
easily be done by going to the Terminal Preferences window under the
Settings menu in the Terminal program. There is an option at the
bottom of the window which says "Use Function, Arrow, and Ctrl keys
for Windows". Turn this option OFF (i.e.: there should be no X in the
box). Now, if you type at the athena% prompt, or in emacs, the ctrl-c
and arrow keys should work.
Note that this will not work with MicroSoft Windows 3.0. This version
has no options to make these settings.
