A general overview of PARAGRAPH FORMATTING

In Framemaker, changes in the style of a document occur at the
paragraph level. Therefore, in order to change spacing, fonts,
numbering properties, and tabs you will need to change the paragraph
format using the Paragraph Designer .

To open the Paragraph Designer window, click inside the paragraph you
want to change and select Format -> Paragraphs -> Designer. A new
window will appear with the type of the paragraph listed in the upper
left hand corner. If you click the mouse under the "Properties" label
you will see a menu with 6 options:

o Basic -- this allows you to change basic properties such as
		alignment, spacing, margins, etc.

o Default Font -- this allows you to change the default
paragraph font, as well as the size and other font
		related options.

o Pagination -- this allows you to specify a paragraph as a
                standard paragraph, a column-spanning paragraph, or a
                paragraph with a run-in heading.

o Numbering -- this allows you to autonumber paragraphs, or
indicate any text you may wish to precede any
		paragraph of this type.

o Advanced -- these options allow you to control the method
which Frame uses to hypenate words, define the
language to use for spell checking, and include
references above or below any paragraphs of a specific
		type

o Table Cell -- Framemaker treats a regular document as a
single cell table. This window allows you to set the
		cell margins and alignment.

For more information on the settings in each of these options, see the
corresponding entry in the "Paragraph Formatting" branch of the stock
answer tree.

Once you have made the necessary changes in the window, you must apply
the changes to either the specified paragraph (click on "Apply" to
selection), all paragraphs of the same type (click on "Update All"),
any new paragraphs of that type that you might want to create (type a
name for your new paragraph format into the "Paragraph Tag" field and
then "create" in the new window that pops up), or all paragraphs in a
document regardless of their type (click on "Global Update Options"
under "Commands" and select "All Paragraphs and Catalog Entries").

NOTE: You generally only want to use the All Paragraphs option if you
are in "As Is" mode. This means that you should use SHIFT-F8 to clear
the information in the format window, and then only click on or change
those attributes which should affect the entire document. Then,
select "Global Update Options" and mark "All Properties" and "All
Paragraphs and Catalog Entries", then "Update."
