How to ADD or DELETE yourself from Athena MAILING LISTS

There are two kinds of lists: Moira lists and Mailman lists. The
procedure to add or remove yourself differs for each kind of list.

For MAILMAN lists:

Visit the list web page at:

https://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/listname

replacing "listname" with the name of the list in question. For
example, for the list mylist@mit.edu, visit:
https://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/mylist

The web page for the list contains instructions and web forms for
subscribing to and unsubscribing from the list.

For MOIRA lists:

Adding or removing yourself from an Athena mailing list is simple,
although the procedure depends on whether the mailing list is
public or private. If you wish to add yourself to a mailing list
which is publicly maintained, you can do so yourself by running the
program "mailmaint". When it comes up, select the option:

	5. Add yourself to a mailing list.

When it asks for the list name, enter the name of the mailing list,
and you will be added to that list when moira updates overnight.

If you wish to be added to a private mailing list, you'll need to
request so from the maintainer of the list. Usually, you can send
mail to "owner-listname" for such requests. If this doesn't work
(i.e.: your mail bounces back to you, saying the address is
unrecognized), then you can try sending it to "listname-request" or
"listname-acl" instead, or you can find out the owner by typing
"blanche -info listname" at the athena% prompt. In some rare cases,
these may not work either; only if you are desperate should you
consider, as a last attempt, sending mail to the actual list with your
request.

To remove yourself from any type of mailing list, enter the
"mailmaint" program, and select the following option:

	6. Delete yourself from a mailing list.

When it asks for the list name, enter the name of the mailing list.
Again, allow one day for moira to update, and you will no longer
receive mail sent to that list.

Another method of adding yourself to public lists, or removing
yourself from lists that you don't want to be on, is to use the web
interface to moira. This is located at

	  http://web.mit.edu/moira/

The web interface will require MIT certificates.

NON-MIT PEOPLE:
If you are on an MIT mailing list, but do not have an Athena account,
you should contact the list maintainers to remove yourself. You can
send e-mail owner-listname@mit.edu and request that you be removed. (For
example, if you are on the list "example-list@mit.edu", you would send e-mail
to owner-example-list@mit.edu.) If the list maintainers do not respond
after a reasonable amount of time (about one week, maybe longer during
the summer, and from mid-December to February), you can contact Athena
User Accounts to get yourself removed. They can be contacted by sending
e-mail to accounts@mit.edu or by calling 617-253-1325 during regular
business hours.
