EXPN doesn't WORK any more
The new mail hubs are being configured to no longer allow the expn
command to expand the membership of mailing lists. Several issues
have influenced this change, including the inability to have a list be
truly hidden if its membership could still be expanded, and an
increasing number of course mailing lists, where enrollment in a
course is legally protected private information.
For maintainers of mailing lists attempting to debug problems with
their lists, several other tools have been made available in the
consult locker:
athena% add consult
athena% lastupd
will query moira to determine when each of the mail hubs last updated.
Any changes made in moira after an update will not be reflected when
you send mail.
athena% add consult
athena% rblanche listname
will recursively list all members of a mailing list, and will specify
the members of each sublist. Additionally, rblanche indicates when
users have forwarded their mail using chpobox, and if an account is
deactivated. This command queries the moira database, rather than the
mail hubs, and it is limited by the permissions you have on the list.
Finally, if you are unable to debug a problem with your mailing list,
contact User Accounts, accounts@mit, which may be able to help you.
