Printing in Color
There are two locations on campus, where you can make color printouts:
Building 11 Copytech, and W20 Copytech Express.
Building 11 Copytech is open 8am-7pm Monday through Friday. You can ftp
files from Athena to their machines and print them, at $1/page for
8.5x11 and $2.50/page for 11x17. These printers do NOT have Athena
print queues - thus you cannot use the "lpr" command to print to them.
For more information on CopyTech, please see http://web.mit.edu/ctc/www/
(Note that CopyTech is not affiliated with Project Athena or Information
Systems)
The color printer in W20 Copytech Express is called "w20color". To
print to it, use the standard printing commands such as "lpr". For
example, to print a color postscript file called picture.ps, you would
type:
lpr -Pw20color picture.ps
It is located inside CopyTech Express, at the back of the room. There
is no charge for printing color documents to this printer, however print
usage is logged. Do not print multiple copies of the same document to
this printer - using printers as photocopiers is a violation of the
Athena Rules of Use. Also, please limit the use of this printer to
academic purposes only, especially during the end of the term. There
are a lot of people who use Athena, and this is the ONLY Athena color
printer.
N.B. You may see references to "The color printer in 4-035" or a
printer called "color-4-035". This was a color printer in the 4-035
cluster. It no longer exists in that cluster. It has been moved to W20
CopyTech and renamed "w20color" (see above).
