How to use FINGER

"finger" is a program you use to find information about other users.
For example, if you know someone's username, you can use finger at the
athena% prompt to get additional information about him/her:

	finger joeuser

This command would return something like:

	Local:
Login name: joeuser In real life: ???

	Athena-wide:
Login name: joeuser In real life: Joe User
	Office: 4-082 MIT, x3-0000 Home phone: 225-0000
	Directory: /mit/joeuser Shell: /bin/csh
	Never logged in.
Project: NOT AN ATHENA STUDENT CONSULTANT
	Plan:
Home address: Somewhere outside of MIT.

I'm having a rough day. Finals are fun, aren't they?

To get the person's plan and project information, you must first attach
his/her home directory by typing "attach username". This does not work if
you finger a username at athena, or at the workstation where she is logged
on. For example:

	finger joeuser@w20-575-2

returns information indicating that joeuser is using that machine, how
long he has been there, and a few other small pieces of information.

There is also a database maintained by the registrar's office. This
contains all the information that normally appears in the MIT Phone
Directory. For information on how to use this, type:

	finger help@mit.edu

This will give you basic details about how to use the system and a list of
other topics on which you may obtain help.
