How to REBOOT an SGI

The preferred method of rebooting an SGI workstation is to select
System/Restart System from the "toolchest" menu. That will prompt you
for the root password, which on the public workstations can be found out
by typing

	tellme root

at the athena% prompt.

Instead of using the menu, you can also type:

	su

enter the root password when prompted, and then type:

	reboot

If you can't do either of those, press the power button (the round
button next to the red/green power light). On SGIs, this will do an
orderly shutdown and turn off the machine. Once the machine shuts off,
wait 30 seconds and press it again to turn it back on and boot.

If all those methods fail, please contact the Hardware Hotline by
calling x3-1410 or sending mail to "hotline@mit.edu".
