Apache SSL has been available for the IS community for over 5 years. By now
the customer base has grown to over 40 sites and we are aware that we need
additional information in order to serve such a big group of users.

In the next few weeks we will be getting ready for our next release. To make
sure that your needs are represented, we would like you to answer a few simple
questions about what you need in the apache-ssl webserver. Please read these
and send your information along with any other comments or suggestions you
have to
      apache-ssl @ mit.edu

1. What version of apache-ssl you are using? To find out, invoke the binary
with the "-v" option. For example:
    yourhost# /var/https/bin/httpsd -v
    Server version: Apache/1.3.27 (Unix)
    Server built: Feb 24 2003 15:48:41

2. On what operating system (hardware and OS version) are you running the '
apache server? One way to find out is with the 'uname' command, and (for
Athena systems) to look at the version file. For example:
    yourhost# uname -a
    SunOS yourhost.mit.edu 5.8 Generic_108528-13 sun4u sparc SUNW,UltraAX-i2
    yourhost# tail -1 /etc/athena/version
    Athena Server (sun4) Version 9.1.14 Thu Aug 29 17:59:21 EDT 2002

3. Which features of the current apache release do you use? To find out, you need
to know what your applications use. If you don't know that, then at a miminum
you should find out what apache modules are included in the webserver you are
running. To find out, invoke the binary with the "-l" option. For example:
    yourhost# /var/https/bin/httpsd -l

Do you need fastcgi? Do you run ApacheJserv? Do you run JRun? Do you run Tomcat
and if yes, which version of Tomcat? When you tell me which modules you need
(like mod_perl) let me know which version of it you depend on.

4. What are your plans for the future as far as the apache software goes ?
Are you planning to transition to Tomcat from Jserv ?

Answers to the above questions from the apache-ssl users will help us providing
you with the best "cookie cutter" apache server. We look forward to hearing
from you. Again, please send your answers, comments and suggestions before
