The selected winner for this year’s young professional award is Dr. Hisham Kassab.
Dr. Kassab is the founder and current President & CTO of MobiLaps LLC, a company committed to
providing subject-matter expertise to senior management to help them solve complex technical and
strategic problems. MobiLaps LLC specializes in two high-demand technical areas: wireless
telecommunications and geospatial interoperability solutions.
Dr. Kassab received his B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical
Engineering and Computer Science, and his M.S. degree in Operations Research from the
Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His Ph.D. research at MIT was in the field of wireless
communications. Dr. Kassab also has previous experience as an Associate at Booz Allen Hamilton.
He has one patent and over 10 publications in his name.

The winner of the graduate student award for this year is Mr. Ahmed Ghazi .
Mr. Ghazi is a research fellow at the Transplantation Biology Research Center, Harvard medical
School. He is also Vice President of the Yale University Arab Students’ Association. Mr. Ghazi is a
fellow of the Society of Critical Care Medicine and is a volunteer with the International Committee of
the Red Cross.
Mr. Ghazi is a candidate for an M.D. degree in 2006 from Yale University School of Medicine and a
Ph.D. in 2009 from Harvard Medical School. Mr. Ghazi completed a Bachelors degree in
Biochemistry from MIT (with a B.S. in political science from Cairo University- through the studyabroad
program)

The recipient of the undergraduate student award for this year is. Mr. Amjad Afanah.
Mr. Afanah has extensive internship experience as an IT analyst and consultant in the banking sector.
Mr. Afanah has also worked as a research assistant in the Speech Communication Group and the
Department of Aeronautics & Astronautics at MIT. Mr. Afanah has held leadership positions in
various student organizations while at MIT including: President of the MIT Chapter – IEEE, Vice
President of the MIT Arab Students’ Organization and Chief Organizer of the MIT Palestinian
Awareness Week.
Mr. Afanah is a candidate for a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering & Computer Science,
with a minor in anthropology, degree from MIT.
