One of the best ways to improve your chances of winning a three- or two-year scholarship is to participate in Army ROTC classes before applying for a scholarship. This demonstrates your interest in the program while giving you a chance to learn more about ROTC before you decide to join. Students can participate in any course within the first two years of the program, the Military Science (MS) 1 and 2, or First-year and Sophomore level, without being on scholarship or incurring any military commitment.
Three-year scholarship winners join the program in the Military Science 2 curriculum and proceed normally through to the MS 4, or senior, level. Two-year scholarship winners attend a 4-week Leader's Training Course (LTC) over the summer before they enter the MS 3, or junior, class in order to teach them the military fundamentals covered in the MS 1 and 2 course load. LTC is a paid opportunity to have lots of fun while learning how to fire rifles, rappel, maneuver through obstacle courses, and navigate. The course also catches the prospective cadet up on all military science knowledge missed in the previous two years. [To Top of Page]
U.S Army Reserves and National Guard
The Simultaneous Membership Program allows you to attend Army ROTC and serve in the U.S. Army Reserve or Army National Guard at the same time. It gives you an opportunity for additional training and experience. Cadets serve as Officer Trainees in the Reserve or National Guard while completing college. You can earn Reserve/Guard pay and benefits in addition to your Army ROTC allowances.
