Arts Awards

MIT recognizes and rewards students for their accomplishments in the arts through over 30 different student awards and prizes.

• Sudler Prize in the Arts
• Laya and Jerome B. Wiesner Student Awards
• The Harold and Arlene Schnitzer Prize in the Visual Arts

In addition, MIT recognizes its arts faculty and outside artists for their accomplishments in the arts through the following awards:

• The Kelly/Douglas Fund for Support of Humanistic Scholarship and Teaching at MIT
• The Epstein Award is presented in recognition of extraordinary contributions to the MIT Symphony Orchestra and the Music and Theater Arts Section
• Gregory Tucker Memorial Awards recognize exceptional ability in composition, performance or music-historical studies
• Ragnar and Margaret Naess Awards recognize exceptional talent and commitment to private performance study
• Philip Loew Memorial Awards recognize creative accomplishment in music
• Brad and Dorothea Endicott Awards recognize distinguished service and musical contribution to the program in world music

Theater Section of the School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences Awards

• The Joseph D. Everingham Award recognizes a single creative outstanding performance or notable creative accomplishments in theater arts
• The Edward S. Darna Award, presented to a graduating student who has demonstrated excellence in theater arts and made a substantial contribution to the health of theater life on the MIT campus

• Program in Writing and Humanistic Studies's annual awards (Ilona Karmel Writing Prizes, Louis Kampf Writing Prize)
• I. Austin Kelly III Essay Prizes are awarded to MIT undergraduates for scholarly or critical essays judged to be outstanding in one of the humanities fields or some interdisciplinary combination
• Austin Kelly III - Richard Douglas (Professor Emeritus) Traveling Fellowships are presented to MIT juniors for travel which supports study in the humanities or arts
