Susan Cohen has been appointed director of the Council for the Arts at MIT (CAMIT), a volunteer group of MIT alumni and friends founded in 1972 to support the arts at MIT. Announcement of the appointment was made by Professor Alan Brody, associate provost for the arts.
Working with the Council's ten standing committees, Ms. Cohen will be responsible for administering CAMIT programs, including the popular Grants Program, disbursement of the Council's annual awards and prizes, organizing the Max Wasserman Forum for Contemporary Art, managing MIT's membership and programs with Boston's Museum of Fine Arts and the Boston Symphony Orchestra, directing the Performing Arts Excursion Series for students and producing the Council's new publication, Council Currents.
Ms. Cohen has a degree in art history from Richmond College, London, as well as a background of ongoing study with the Harvard Extension School and the Art Institute of Boston. She has been with the arts at MIT since 1987, beginning as a gallery attendant at the List Visual Arts Center. She became a senior staff assistant in the Office of the Arts in 1989, working primarily with the executive director of the Council.
"It's especially gratifying when someone as talented and able as Susan moves forward within the Office of the Arts and continues to develop her already remarkable skills as an arts administrator," said Professor Brody.
