Visiting Artist Shows the Lighter Side of Science

Larry Gonick, artist-in-residence at MIT April 14-18, 1997 will toss a handful of paint-loaded darts at information theory and computer scientists while illustrating a few secrets of the cartoonist¹s art in a discussion titled, "The Fine Line: Where Does Science Leave Off and Cartooning Begin?" on Thursday, April 17, at 7pm at the MIT Museum. Author of The Cartoon Guide to Physics, The Cartoon Guide to Genetics and popular and well-respected guides to statistics, computers and other subjects, Mr. Gonick also created the "Flashbacks" cartoon feature in Newsday and "Science Classics" in Discover magazine. While at MIT, Mr. Gonick has taught an intensive cartooning class titled "The Cartoon Guide to Everything." His residency is sponsored by the MIT Museum, the Office of the Arts, the Center for Materials Science and Engineering, the School of Humanities and Social Science, the Program in Writing and Humanistic Studies and Professor Toyoichi Tanaka.
