The new Endicott World Music Center (Building N52) was dedicated last Thursday (Oct. 23, 1997) during the 25th annual meeting of the Council for the Arts at MIT in a ceremony that featured the music of India, Indonesia, and Africa performed by MIT students and faculty. The new space, donated by Bradford 1949 and Dorothea Endicott, will be used primarily for rehearsals, instrument storage, and small performances by members of MIT's Gamelan Galak Tika, MITCAN (MIT's African performing ensemble), members of world music classes and South Asian artists presented by the MITHAS series. The Center was hailed by Associate Provost for the Arts Alan Brody and members of MIT's music faculty as a valuable and much-needed resource for MIT's growing world music programs, and called "a visionary and exciting educational opportunity" by Alex D'Arbeloff, chairman of the MIT Corporation.
