Assistant Professor Thomas DeFrantz of the Music and Theater Arts Section will be the American representative at the Bienelle of Dance in Umea, Sweden, March 28-April 1, 2001. Professor DeFrantz has been invited to present a talk about dance studies in the US and a report on everything he sees at the festival. He says the trip is "part of a mini tour" that includes a visit to Sardinia, the island of Italy to participate in the Congress on African American Research, where he'll read from his manuscript on Alvin Ailey. "From Sardinia to Sweden in ten days," says Professor DeFrantz, who marvels at the turn his Spring break has taken.
