"A White Lilac: Eight Songs to Poems of Lizette Woodworth Reese," a song cycle by Charles Shadle, lecturer in music, will be premiered by the commissioning organization, American Classics in "Bravo, Boston!" a program of vocal and instrumental works by Boston composers. Shadle will present a pre-concert talk one-half hour before the performance on Sunday, Jan. 23, at 4 p.m. at St. Paul’s Church (15 St. Paul St., Brookline). Wellesley Summer Theatre is currently presenting the world premiere of "The Book of Hours" by MIT Affiliate Laura Harrington. Set in Belgium in the early days of World War I, the play follows the lives of six men and women in and around the library at Louvain as they struggle to preserve rare literary classics and some semblance of their own humanity. "The Book of Hours," directed by Wellesley Summer Theatre Artistic Director Nora Hussey, will be performed on Thursday Jan, 13 & 20 at 7 p.m.; Friday Jan. 14,& 21 at 8 p.m.; Saturday Jan. 15 & 22 at 2 p.m., and  Saturday Jan. 15 & 22 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 general admission and $15 students and senior citizens. All performances are in the Ruth Nagel Jones Theatre, in Alumnae Hall at Wellesley College. For more information or to make a reservation, call 781/283-2000.
