Extracurricular Classes
From a cappella ensembles to literary publications, painting classes to comedy troupes, opportunities to participate in extracurricular (non-credit) arts activities at MIT are many and varied. A number of these activities are open to MIT staff and others in the MIT community, and members of the Greater Boston community as well.
The following is a list of extracurricular (non-credit) arts classes offered at MIT. Also see the complete list of arts Groups and Clubs; many of the organizations on this list welcome beginners and offer learning opportunities at all levels.
In addition, numerous extracurricular arts courses are offered during MIT's Independent Activities Period (IAP), a special 4-week term that runs from the first week of January until the end of the month.
Architecture

MIT Museum—sponsors numerous educational programs, most of which are related to science and technology but some of which involve architecture and other visual arts forms

Several dance groups welcome beginners and offer instruction:
Ballroom Dance Club—ballroom dance classes at all levels
Bhangra Club—Punjab folks dance classes
Casino Rueda—Rueda/salsa classes at all levels
Folk Dance Club—classes in International, contra and Israeli dance
Natya—classes in Indian Classical dance
Tech Squares—classes in square dance

Oori—informal instruction in Poong Mul, a traditional Korean folk music combining rituals, music, dance and acrobatics

Glass Lab—classes in beginning, intermediate, and advanced glass blowing; lectures and workshops by visiting artists
Hobby Shop—instruction, advice, and classes in woodworking and metalworking
List Visual Arts Center—public talks and programs in conjunction with current exhibitions
MIT Museum—sponsors numerous educational programs, most of which are related to science and technology but some of which involve photography, interactive video, architecture and other visual arts forms
Student Art Association—instruction and studio experience in the arts at the beginning and intermediate levels in drawing, painting, ceramics, and photography
