I am interested in understanding the fundamental mechanical and dynamical properties of dispersed materials with structural features varying from nanometers to micrometers with the aim of predicting and controlling macroscopic properties, transport behaviors and stability. I am well versed in both analytical approaches and detailed numerical simulations. I combine ideas such as the method of multiple scales, ensemble averaging and effective field theories with traditional fluid/solid mechanics and physics.

My previous work has included studies on hydrodynamic interactions in gas-solid suspensions, interfacial phenomena, phase dynamics and transitions in rod-like liquid crystals, polymer melt processing and directional solidification.

My current work involves analytical and computational modeling of field-responsive bi-disperse suspensions, biological gels and poroelastic smart foam composites. I am also studying biological molecular motors and motor aggregates with the aim to understand and eventually control fluid flow at the microscale using biomimetic fluidic devices.
