COMMENTS:

This project was sent to me by Mr. Palaniswamy who runs this
project. It has won several awards in India, for its work in
supporting these children. It was referred to me by Dr. Dilip
Veerarraghavan of IIT-Madras and by Dr.Muralidharan also of IIT
-M both of whom actively are involved in supporting voluntary
organisations. (Anu)

Visited by Ravi Sundaram on 6/3/1996. At the time there were
300 students, about 80 of whom were girls. Ravi states that
"the education provided at SEED seems to be effective in
improving the lot of the children." He recommends that
ASHA should continue to fund them while monitoring their
need and performance.

Awards include:

"Best Child Development Project" in India
from the Rotary India Foundation. Feature articles in
"The Hindu" newspaper and "The Week" magazine. (Raj 1/12/97)

HISTORY:

4/19/96 Letter from Anu to Mr. Palanisamy stating that ASHA-MIT
will send $1000 to seed with a possibility of more after an
appraisal. This letter included a check for $1000.

5/31/96 Letter from Mr. Palinsamy to Anu regarding dating
on the ASHA check. Apparently the check was dated 4/10/96
which lead the bank to say it cannot be deposited until
October 1996. Palinsamy enclosed the check with a
request that it be dated earlier so they could use the
money immediately. Also enclosed were newspaper and magazine
articles about SEED.
