Iguanas and Dope

Thinking about what to do next, they decide they should take the Canby job, since it was sent directly to Buckman Charters. Genny almost makes the call, but it dissuaded, and Dive talks to Canby, who knows that Buckman is dead but is willing to come see the new group. That afternoon he does, with his jeep and his thug, and seems to know his way around the place. While he tries to be circumspect about what B.C. would be transporting, Coot Jenkins says that it's dope, and he doesn't deny it. After a brief debate, the group takes the job. Canby tells them they're lucky he's desperate, or he wouldn't find the little girl pretending to be their mechanic funny. Coot gets confused about reality and movies when they ask him if 500 mg of Long John is a good price for the transport.

They load four bales wrapped in plastic that afternoon and take off (all of them) for Long Point. Canby also sends his thug, Jack, and Jack's SMG along for the ride. There's a Class III storm in the way, and Pilot waits a little too long to gain altitude to pass over it, resulting in a very rough ride. Jack loses his gun, and it goes spinning around the cabin before Whitney jumps on it. After that, the trip goes pretty smoothly - they set down in Long Point's bay and are met by a big rasta-dude who takes the bales. The hurricane has moved on by the time they fly back.

The next day they start out on an iguana collection run for a HIST radiation study, collecting lizards all over New Hawaii. Whitney is an excellent iguana catcher, and they easily catch some at their first stop. At the second stop, the bay they choose has a lesser white swarm in a frenzy in it, and all the iguanas are out on the rocks. Whitney goes in on her board and is not bitten while collecting lizards, though her board is. No one else goes in.

That evening they collect in the Cays and stay the night at Fathom Deeps, Whitney's home village. It's a strange blend of tribal and environmental. Several of the crew get drunk on the latest distillation experiment, and Pilot tries but fails to get lucky with the native girls. Regina has a strange dream about running through a tall rainforest when she sleeps.

The next day (014:101), they go to collect on Coronado Reef but are warned by a Biogene security VTOL to give the station a very wide berth. They manage to collect some lizards anyway, and Pilot decides not to toy with the security people by flying under radar on the way out. Everyone is a little miffed with him that he didn't tell them immediately about the Biogene VTOL (something about it just making them twitchy). There's one more stop after that where they can't find any iguanas at all, so they document that and return to the Cove.

The next morning Pilot, Whitney, and Dive fly to HIST and give them the lizards. They decide to spend the evening in Haven instead of flying back immediately. Pilot goes to the Church of Whalesong Theogeny and gets lucky (dolphin church is pretty different from your average Episcopalians), and Dive and Whitney go to a few bars. Dive is accosted in one of the bars by hydroshot fans who recognize him from his time with the Kingston Rastas, though he denies it. They put some taped games on the bar screen and he decides to leave. Whitney interrogates him a little about that, but only a little.

They return to the Cove by midday on 016:101

Out of character quote of the run:

"Am I in the run with people who totally took hunted?" - Marleigh

MIN:
The tribe of Fathom Deeps is very interested in the Pseudoeel in Buckman cove. They say Pseudoeels don't usually get that big, and a white one (albino?) is especially interesting. It may be a new subspecies. It would be unethical to kill it. Whitney and Regina agree to study it when they get back.
MIN:
Dive Jordan, Buckman Charters Employee, refuses to admit that he is also Dive Jordan, Famed Hydroshot Player. Neither the fans nor Whitney find his denials convincing. He later admits it to Whitney, after a bit of pressing. There is some talk of hydroshot scrimmages back at the base, before it's pointed out that the eel is still in the bay.
