Sunday morning, Angelina gets a letter that has been given to a guy who knew a guy who knew who to give to get it to her (and later turns out to have been in transit for perhaps a week. It's from cousin Vinny. He warns her that "Our Father has decided to let the Antinellis settle their differences with you. They're sending Tony "the Icepick" Vencelli." Angelina lets Dan know what's up, and then dies her hair and goes to mass.
There, she decides to go to confession. "I've been breaking the third, fourth, and fifth commandment." She manage to imply that she's a cop without actually saying so, saving the priest from totally flipping out. He asks her to ensure that killing is truly the last option. Then she tells him about eating people... "I cannot stress enough the accidental nature of this..." He gives her a large number of recitations and lets her go with some relief.
Back at the Hospice, Angelina tells everyone about the hit, and explains that her Great Uncle has sold her out, and that the rest of the family hasn't protected her. That afternoon everyone mostly pokes around and is nervous.
"I spend all afternoon combing my hair. Unless someone asks me to do something." -- Esteban
Late in the afternoon, Ryan calls Angelina and gets the full story. Apparently the Antinellis killed her brother (unauthorized by the Don) and she killed four of them in revenge. Nothing was done for a while, but now it seems that permission has been given to have her killed. Ryan says that she's in the Inquisition now, and that they will deal with it. He believes that the best thing to do is to issue a threat and then carry through with it. The Inquisition obviously has a resources that the average Family isn't familiar with. Angelina is to lay low until TNI has contacted the Antinellis, then maybe the team will trap Tony as a demonstration.
Monday, most of the team goes to surveil Ricky DeCenza with the ether goggles, revealing that he does have something magical around his neck (though not what it is). Esteban gets his bandages off and goes out. Angelina gets her bandages off and stays in. That night, Angelina stays up watching movies. When Esteban returns, he tries to persuade her that they should rent some cheerful movie. Failing that, he goes out and buys two bottles of tequila.
"It's pickle juice and tequila. They call it a pickle tickle." -- Esteban
Angelina and Esteban proceed to get moderately drunk when a man smashes through the window into the den. He shoots Angelina a couple times while she manages to prove that he's wearing a bulletproof vest by landing one on him before going down. Esteban tries "Love Hurts" a few times without success.
By this point Gavin and Alexandra are downstairs. Gavin takes one of Angelina's wounds, then the other, putting him bleeding on the floor and her up again. While he's doing that, Esteban gathers his mojo and nails Tony with it, causing him to collapse in hysterics. After that, it's all over bar a lot of rolling around trying to restrain the hit man and some tazering.
Gavin is rushed to the infirmary where Dr. Staadler is mystified by his wounds but works on them anyway. There's bullet wounds there, but no bullets. Angelina beats on Tony for a while. Esteban sees that Tina has come downstairs in the ruckus and tries to reassure her without too much success (for one thing, he tells Tina that the man was here to kill Angelina). Eventually he gets Angelina to calm down and heads out with Tina to an all-night pancake restaurant.
There he explains a little about what they do - alleging it's like the X-Files - without actually admitting too much. He claims that it usually isn't this dangerous. He also says that he's doing it to provide for her. "If I didn't have a sister, I wouldn't be in this." He then backpedals some from that statement, realizing how bad it sounds. She eventually calls him stupid which he takes as a sign of some mental recovery.
Back at the Hospice, Gavin is getting a transfusion while Gwen sits by his side after questioning Alexandra a bit about why people are so fragile. Alexandra says she doesn't know why they are so fragile and complicated. Angelina is persuaded not to kill the hitman yet by Thielo.
The next day, Ryan arrives with Violet McIntyre, a plutomancer with TNI. After consulting with the team a bit, she uses Devil's Deal and finds out that what he wants most in the world is for Esteban to like him (the aftereffect of having his heart broken by Esteban's spell the night before).
Realizing what he's going to be used for, and not really being sure about the reality of emotions anyway, Van manages to pull together a fair amount of kindness for the Icepick, who is still occasionally crying and apologizing. Violet then fills Tony in on the little favor that he should do for them.
Tony "the Icepick" Vencelli is packed off to the airport, there to do a little favor for Violet. He's going to go to the Antinellis and tell them not to mess with Angelina or any of her friends. And then he's going to blow his brains all over their carpet. This is considered to be likely to be a very effective threat.
